Is Christianity As Violent As Islam? by Damon Whitsell

We should only have to look at how the two religions came to prominence to answer this question. But this article will go further than that. We will look at how the two religions rose to power and then we will look at the Bible and the Koran.

There are 50 Muslim majority countries in the world today and almost all of them used to be Christian before being invaded and conquered by Islam. Those Christian lands became Christian because after 300 years of brutal persecution of Christians by Rome, Constantine made Christian persecution illegal in the Edict of Malan and later made Christianity the official religion of Rome in the Edict of Thessalonica on February 27th 380AD. These are two historical markers and documents that show Christianity rose to ascendancy without lifting a sword. But the opposite is true of Islam. Islam became what it is by The Sword of Allah.

The Sword of Allah is another name for Khalid ibn al-Walid who was a companion of Muhammad’s that led his armies. Khalid was victorious in over a hundred battles against the forces of the Byzantine-Roman Empire, Sassanid-Persian Empire, and their allies.  Khalid invaded the Middle East, Asia Minor, into Eastern Europe and across Northern Africa. The Islamic armies then crossed the Mediterranean Sea and invaded into Italy, Spain, France and completely over-run the Mediterranean Islands, thus conquering two thirds of the Christian world well before the Crusades started. The video below will give you a visualization of these invasions. The video by Dr. Bill Warner of PoliticalIslam.com visualizes 548 Islamic Invasion Battles from 620AD to 1820AD, and it also shows the scope of the purely defensive Christian Crusades in comparison. The most important thing to notice about the video is that despite the fact that Muslim apologist and Liberals will try to say all the Islamic battles where defensive, not one single time did a foreign army invade the Islamic Arabian Peninsula, not even during the Crusades. These expansive Islamic battles led to the total conquest of the Persian Empire. And almost eliminated the religion of Zoroastrianism.

You can see a list of those battles here. Many of the earlier battles listed in the document and visualized in the video were not merely chronicled by Western Historians. All the battles that happened during Muhammads life are chronicled by Islamic sources.

The following is a link to the earliest Islamic biography of Muhammad (Sira): Sirat Rasul Allah written by Ibn Ishaq . It was written by a Muslim contemporary of Muhammad, not by Christians. And most of the Sira is political and has to do with what Muhammad and Islam did, and are to do today, to Christians, Jews, Zoroastrians, the Arab polytheist pagans and others – rather than what Muslims are to do to get to heaven. If you read the Sira of Muhammad it is likely to change your life. It will for sure give you a new perspective of Islam. And a bloody one at that.

The conquest of Europe by invading Islamic Armies was only stopped by Charles The Hammer Martel and The Franks at the Battle of Tours in France on October 10th, 732. After the first Jihads advance was stopped in Tours, Islam launched another Jihad that came close to conquering the whole world again, only to be stopped two times at the Gates of Vienna in 1529ad and 1683ad. And America fought it’s first two wars against the Islamic Barbary States during the Barbary Wars in 1801 – 1805 and 1815, right after gaining independence from Britain. The United States and it’s allies also fought against Islam and their allies in WW1, thus ending the reign of the Ottoman Empire. Had the Ottoman Empire had an Industrial Revolution like the west WW1 would have likely turned out much differently, the Ottoman empire and the Islamic Caliphate would probably not have been dissolved and Islamic Jihad would have never been lulled if not for the military and economic advance of the west that was caused by an explosion of technology.  Historians estimate that 270,000,000 have been killed in 1400 years of Islamic Jihad. And now Islam has started it’s third Jihad. But yet when an Islamic terrorist attack occurs in the west people want to talk about Christianity.

The 4 most often brought up charges as being the greatest evils of Christianity in history are The Crusades, The Spanish Inquisition, The Salem Witch Trials and more recently Abortion Clinic Bombings. But as the video and battle list above show the Crusades were purely defensive in response to 400+ years of Islamic Invasion into the Christian world, including the Holy Land. As Bernard Lewis a historian specializing in Islam says “The Crusade was a delayed response to the jihad, the holy war for Islam, and its purpose was to recover by war what had been lost by war—to free the holy places of Christendom and open them once again, without impediment, to Christian pilgrimage’.  And one of the leading authorities on the Spanish Inquisition, Henry Kamen, states that a total of 1,394 people were killed during the Inquisition. That’s less than half the number killed on 9/11 alone. Concerning the Salem Witch Trials the Smithsonian says “more than 200 people were accused of practicing witchcraft—the Devil’s magic—and 20 were executed”. And you hardly ever hear anyone say that it was other Christians that put and end to the Witch Trials because they were not biblical. The names of those wrongfully killed can be read here at Wikipedia. Abortion bombings are similarly not as high as you would think. This 2015 New York Times article says “At least 11 people have been killed in attacks on abortion clinics in the United States since 1993”, and that includes all forms of violent attacks at abortion clinics, not just bombings. So now let’s look at the Bible and the Koran to see if they both give commands to do violence against unbelievers and wage conquest to rule the world.

THE BIBLE VERSUS THE KORAN

Here is a discussion I had with a Liberal at MediaMatters. I think it adequately shows the Koran commands violence and conquest while the Bible does not. I started with this comment.

Qur’an:9:29 – “Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.”

Qur’an:8:39 – “So fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief [non-Muslims]) and all submit to the religion of Allah alone (in the whole world).”

Bukhari:8:387 – “Allah’s Apostle said, ‘I have been ordered to fight the people till they say: ‘None has the right to be worshipped but Allah.’

Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour.”Deut 21:10-12 “When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, and thou hast taken them captive, And seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and hast a desire unto her, that thou wouldest have her to thy wife; Then thou shalt bring her home to thine house, and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails; “Exodus 31:15 ” . . . whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.”Deut 21:21 “And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die . . . ”

Conversely there are 527 verses of intolerance toward non-Muslims, and 109 verses specifically advocating violence towards non-Muslims in the Koran. Many of them (as the ones above) calling for total dominance of Islam. The Koran even tells us the purpose of Islam…

Qur’an 48:28 He it is Who hath sent His messenger with the guidance and the religion of truth, that He may cause it to prevail over all religion. And Allah sufficeth as a Witness.

The bible verses you quote are descriptive historical accounts, not imperatives to violence with totalitarian ends. But the Koran has no storyline or narrative and is mostly commands. Of which only 39% are spiritual (what Muslims do to get to heaven) and 61% political (how Muslims are to treat non-Muslims).

However the only potential comparison in the bible is the alleged “genocide” verses in the narratives of the Jewish conquest of Canaan. But if your not a Canaanite they don’t apply to you and the commands where specifically to Israel for one time period and situation only. Even though these verses may appear to be commands of genocide, they are not because hyperbolic war rhetoric was the norm of the day and the over-riding command was to drive out the Canaanites, and the Jews did not even do that.

On the flip side, Muhammad carried out the commands in the Koran and Muslims have been doing so until this day, since before MO died. You don’t think Islam invaded and conquered most of the known world (at one time) for defensive purposes, do ya?

Now does this mean the Bible is an evil book that advocates the murder of infidels?

Your double standard is so obvious it sees double. How is the “hyperbolic war rhetoric” of the Jews any different than the one of the Muslims? LOL,,, Sharia institutionalizes Islamic supremacy, the subjugation of the people of the book (Jews and Christians – and later Zoroastrians),,,, and all others don’t have the third option of dhimmitude – for them it is convert or die, if you cannot flee. This was the SOP of Islam from the times of Muhammad until the dissolving of the ottoman empire caliphate in the early 1900’s and is still the SOP in some Muslim controlled countries today. As far as customs of the time are concerned, you have to read the Sunna of Muhammad (Hadiths – sayings and traditions of MO, and the Sira – the early Islamic biographies of MO),, to understand them,,,, have you read any of them?

No double standard at all. If you read the text you just posted it says “If you hear in one of your cities” and “If there is found in your midst, in any of your [a]towns”,,, that God had ‘given” them – these commands are to Israel only and for one specific place (the land of Canaan) and one specific time. They are not at all open commands for Jews to fight or kill someone because they are not Jews. Other passages in Deuteronomy basically say to the Jews as they enter the land of Cannon to “kill them all” (my paraphrase),, such as…

Deu 20:15-17 Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations. But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth: But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee:

…. but (as noted above) if your not one of the Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, or Jebusites (in other words – a Canaanite), at a specific time in Canaan – these verses do not apply to you. And the same “kill them all” rhetoric is applied the Jews themselves (as punishment from God), if they do not follow the commands. But when you read the historical account of the conquest of Canaan in the book of Joshua you see that there are still many Canaanites left in the land, they don’t all get killed (or even driven out) and Israel does not get utterly destroyed for not follwing the commands. WHY is this? Because the thrust of the commands are “driving out” and “thrusting out” the Canaanites (Exodus 23:28; Leviticus 18:24; Numbers 33:52: Deuteronomy 6:19; 7:1; 9:4; 18:12; Joshua 10:28,30,32,35,37,39; 11:11,14) and “dispossessing” the Canaanites of their land (Numbers 21:32; Deuteronomy 9:1; 11:23; 18:14; 19:1; etc.). “Driving out” or “dispossessing” is different from “wiping out” or “destroying.” This shows that utter annihilation was not intended and the “kill them all” passages are the type of war rhetoric that was commonly used in the ancient near east.

But with Islam, there is very little chronological, storyline or narrative context in the Koran as it is not a book of history like the Bible. To put the Koran in context you have to read the Sunna of Muhammad (Hadiths – sayings and traditions of MO, and the Sira – the early Islamic biographies of MO). And they show that MO and Islam was not just using war rhetoric.

…. and if you know anything about history – you’ll know it’s true. Christianity conquered the Roman Empire (without lifting a sword) when Constantine became Christian through the preaching of the good news of Jesus Christ. But Islam conquered all of it’s territories (except for Pakistan) with the sword. And if it had not been for Charles the Hammer Martel at the battle of Tours and two successful defenses at the gates of Vienna – all of Europe (and probably the whole world) would be Islamic today.

About 2 years ago I heard Pastor Terry Jones say,, “Islam is of the Devil”. I was repulsed and sent him a nasty little letter calling him a bigot, Islamophobe and non-Christian, among other things. But then I went to his facebook page for his burn a koran day, and two FB pages against it,, and what I seen shocked me.

It went like this,,,”we will kill you all if you burn our Koran”,, and non Muslims responded by saying,,, “not if we kill you all first”. The non-muslims where posting videos of Muslims burning people alive, beheading people, stoning people, hanging people, beating women,,etc. I had seen a couple of these videos but had no idea there where so many. And of course on 9/11 they was showing all the tributes on TV which included the jumpers from the towers, I was really overwhelmed but still spent a total of five days on those facebook pages. One day as soon as I awoke, it dawned on me that I never seen a single Muslim denounce those atrocious videos without also half heartedly justifying them. And many Muslims outright condoned the terrible acts. That day I noticed that far to many of the ones who condoned such acts where living in the west. I knew right then that there are not as many “moderate Muslims” as myself and most people thought.

So I read the Koran for the third time, this time referring to the Sunna to properly interpret it’s jumbled mess. And now I totally agree with Jones that Islam is of the Devil. And I know that if anyone does not also think so,,, they are simply blindly biased and/or ignorant and have not read the Islamic holy trilogy.

TERRORISM STATISTICS: Islam versus Christianity

“I have seen so many comments from liberals in denial regarding the ISIS terrorist attack in California, so this post is going to be my very best attempt at untangling this yarn ball of lies and bullsh*t as best I can.

First, the majority of them have immediately brought up Robert Dear, the guy who shot three people in Planned Parenthood, to make a point that Christian terrorists are just as bad and Muslim terrorists are unfairly scrutinized. When’s the last time you heard of a terrorist attack targeting abortion clinics? I looked it up. Since 1993, there have been 7 fatal attacks on abortion clinics or abortion doctors, resulting in 11 fatalities. ELEVEN. Just to clarify, that’s less in 25 years than Syed Farook and Tashfeed Malik (the San Benardino shooters) killed in the span of 5 minutes.

Second, bringing up other white, male mass shooters in the United States to somehow prove this is just as big a problem as Islamic terrorism and ISIS. Why white males? Why not mention the Navy Yard shooter or the Virginia Tech shooter? As far as I’m aware, there is no all encompassing ideology driving white males to go on rampage killings. There’s no single motive or common denominator, unlike Islamic terrorism, where there is ALWAYS a single motive and common denominator: Islam. I looked up the 30 worst mass shootings in US history from 1949 to the present. 10 of them were carried out by non white males. And those 30 rampage shootings resulted in a total of 382 deaths. That’s less than 1/4 of fatalities caused by Islamic terrorist attacks in November 2015 ALONE.

Thirdly, many are saying there have been 355 mass shootings in America this year, with only 2% by Muslims being responsible. Except this statistic from “Mass Shooting Tracker” has been proven FALSE. 42% of these so called “shootings” resulted in zero deaths and 29% resulted in 1 death. That’s 71% of these supposed “mass shootings” that involved 1 death or less. So if you’re parroting this statistic, you’re essentially lumping a random shooting where one person was injured in the leg with a pre-planned, ISIS terror attack on US soil. Congratulations.

Muslim war with Americans began around 640 A.D. by William Federer

This led Europe to a re-interest in Greek culture called the Renaissance.

As the wealth of Greek Byzantine Empire flowed to Florence, Italy, many were made rich, most notably the families of Medici and Borgia, who financed artists Michelangelo and Leonardo DaVinci.

Condemning rising sensualism, the preacher Savonarola brought a notable Christian revival till he was excommunicated, tortured and executed. Fleeing Greek scholars also brought to Europe the Greek Bible, which was translated by Erasmus. This led to the Reformation, begun by Martin Luther in 1517.

The King of France, Francis I, caused a scandal in Europe by making an alliance with Muslim Ottomans against Italy, Spain and England. Francis I ordered the punishment of religious dissidents known as Waldensians. Over the next century, the Religious Wars resulted in atrocities committed by both Protestant and Catholic armies against each other.

Lorenzo de’ Medici, to whom Niccolò Machiavelli dedicated his notorious book, “The Prince,” 1515, had his daughter, Catherine de’ Medici, marry the next King of France, Henry II. Henry II suppressed Protestant Huguenots, and after his death Catherine de’ Medici was credited with the 1572 St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre in Paris, after which Protestants fled France.

Are the Bible and Koran Equally Violent? How Leftist Say So and Why It Ain’t True by Damon Whitsell

Is the Bible as violent as the Koran? The answer is YES, if you talk to many Muslims and Liberals. But are they really? The following is a short discussion I had with a liberal about the subject. I hope to show you that they are not and that all non-Muslims should be uniting and working against Islam, not only because it is an institution that is a Human Rights nightmare, but because Islam really does have the submission of the whole world to Islam as it’s goal.

When you bring up the Koran or Hadith, many scream context context context,, claiming that if read in their proper context, they really don’t say what they say – so it’s all good, just relax.

Dr. Mark Durie (author of The Third Choice) confronts this misconception in his article,, A Dozen Bad Ideas for the 21st Century and says “8. The belief that putting something in context will always produce a more innocuous interpretation. This is not true. Attending properly to context can make a text even more offensive than it would otherwise have been. Conversely, if you take something out of context you may regard it more positively than you ought to. In reality, radical interpretations of the Qur’an, such as are used to support terrorism, almost always involve an appeal to a rich understanding of the context in which the Qur’an was revealed, including the life of Muhammad. On the other hand, many have taken peaceful verses of the Qur’an out of context, in order to prove that Islam is a peaceful religion”.

I think my responses in the exchange below do a fairly good job of showing that if put in their proper context, the Bible does not say what many who wish to obfuscate with false moral equivalences want it to say, and the Koran says and means exactly what many people fervently hope and pray that it does not really say and mean. For many, the obvious, when looking into the context, is just too much to bear – so we have a generation with their heads in the sand.

SOME PREFACING

I have been spending much of my time at Eric Allen Bells’ Facebook page and new website for the past month or so. You may not know him yet, but he is a liberal film maker and writer who had a drastic change of view about Islam, and much of everything else, as a result of doing a documentary on the mega-mosque in Murfreesboro Tennessee. For Eric, the impetus to look at Islam again was a conversation he had with a Christian Coptic Cab driver in which the driver disagreed with him that the changes happening in Egypt are a good thing. The driver told him a regime change would be fatal to his family back home. For me the impetus was the responce of Muslims and non-Muslims, around the world and online, to Pastor Terry Jones’s Burn A Koran Day almost two years ago (you can read my short testimony about it in the sidebar). To get people up to speed on Eric’s amazing story, I usually give them this article called The High Price of Telling The truth About Islam You can see the amazing work he has done on exposing and opposing the mosque in Tennessee (since his change of mind) here, that has resulted in him quickly becoming a big player in the counter-jihad movement and him being featured on Fox News in the past and twice in the last few days.

As a result of these Fox News appearances, the leftist online media is featuring the recent videos also because Eric is very blunt and right on in his assertions about Islam, most specifically that Islam is “the worst, most deadly idea in the history of the world”. Those two videos are posted here (at media matters – the site my exchange is on). I think all three videos are a must see as rarely have such truths about Islam been spoken freely on any mainstream media. Eric has been studying Islam now for about 2 years and he knows his stuff and is very articulate.

Like the tired refrain that religion is “anti-science” even though only one example is usually offered (and it is mistaken), the Crusades are often “the” example listed for the equally wearisome complaint that religion causes more wars than any other factor (a laughable falsehood).

The Crusades are often pictured as a series of bloodthirsty religious wars comparable to modern-day jihad terrorism. However, while there certainly were misdeeds performed during the Crusades – and these should be remembered and judged accordingly – the larger issue is whether or not the Church in general – or even the Crusades in particular – were at fault for such acts. Hitler and his Nazi state can be properly blamed for the atrocities of the Holocaust, for these vile acts flowed directly from his teachings and commands. But were the Crusades equally to blame for the evil performed while they were enacted, or are they, like other Christian Urban Legends, misunderstood and misrepresented?

Bad Press and Modern Myths

Thomas F. Madden, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of History at Saint Louis University, says that,

“During the Middle Ages you could not find a Christian in Europe who did not believe that the Crusades were an act of highest good. Even the Muslims respected the ideals of the Crusades and the piety of the men who fought them. But that all changed with the Protestant Reformation. For Martin Luther . . . argued that to fight the Muslims was to fight Christ himself, for it was he who had sent the Turks to punish Christendom for its faithlessness. . . . It was in the Enlightenment of the eighteenth century that the current view of the Crusades was born.”

Even after the Reformation / Enlightenment period, the Crusades were not looked upon in a negative light. Even Muslims showed little interest in the Crusades before it became politically expedient after “the West” declared Israel a nation once again. Only in the last couple generations have the Crusades became the “whipping wars” in anti-religion propaganda.

Crusade History

“The Crusades” generally refers to the set of seven distinct campaigns over a 150 year period (A.D. 1099 to 1254) that were enacted to liberate the Holy Land from Muslim control. Since the birth of Islam under Muhammad, Muslims had fought to bring the world under their control. Islam got off to a weak start under Muhammad until violence became the modus operandi. After a few centuries of conquest, though, Islam had spread to North Africa, the Middle East, Asia Minor, and into Spain. By the 11th century, the Seljuk Turks had taken control of Palestine and closed Jerusalem to both Jews and Christians. The Muslim invaders attacked Constantinople (the capitol of the Eastern Roman Empire and the Eastern Church), and were headed into Europe, before the first Crusade was called by Pope Urban II in 1095 to defend the Christian West.

The word “Crusade” was not actually used during this time, now was “war” since these campaigns were considered more of a religious pilgrimage. After the 12th century, the word was used to designate those fighting on “croisade” – a French term meaning “the way of the cross.” During the First Crusade, Jerusalem was successfully recaptured. Crusader territories were established that the Second Crusade (1147-1149) was called to reinforce. By 1191, Jerusalem and many of these Crusader territories had fallen back into Muslim hands, so a Third Crusade was called to attempt recovery. This led to the famous clash between the Muslim leader Saladin and Richard the Lionhearted (who was not able to regain Jerusalem from the Muslim forces).

The Fourth Crusade was launched in 1202, but, for various reasons, ended up coming against Constantinople itself. This divided both Empire and Church, and the East would never forgive the West for the atrocities that occurred (which sadly mirrored previous atrocities from the East). The Fifth Crusade started in 1217 in Egypt – largely going nowhere. The Sixth Crusade in 1228 was directed back toward Palestine. It was successful, but short-lived. The and Seventh Crusade lasted from 1248-1254, with Islamic forces destroying the remnants of the Crusader territories. Crusading came to an end shortly thereafter.

Urban Legends

The major issues people cite concerning the Crusades (when they can cite any at all) often involve some of the urban legends surrounding them. It is thought that Muslims were the innocent party and the Crusades instigated their hatred of the West, that Crusaders massacred innocent Jews and even other Christians, that children were sent to war, and that all of this was done to get rich. Perhaps worst of all, the Crusaders thought they would get away with it because the Pope promised them forgiveness of any sin committed while on Crusade. Like most urban legends, these falsehoods are based on only barely true, mostly misunderstood or misrepresented grounds.

Aggression

The Crusades were not simply unprovoked aggression – as noted above, they were defensive moves to protect Christendom from Muslim invasion. Muslims had been attacking Christians for more than 450 years before the First Crusade. Further, the idea that the Crusades also sparked Muslim hatred of the West is a historical falsehood. the Crusades did not do much damage to the Islamic forces, and not much notice was given to the Crusades by Muslims for several centuries. Muslims did not even seem to take active interest in the Crusades until the early 20th Century.

Massacres

It has been said that when the Crusaders captured Jerusalem in 1099 they massacred every man, woman, and child in the city until “the streets ran ankle deep with the blood.” History and science show this to be poetic hyperbole. A contemporary Muslim source has been discovered that puts the number of the slain at three thousand. Was there violence? Absolutely. In that time, a city that had to be taken by force belonged to the victorious invaders – including people. This barbaric idea actually helped lessen damaging resistance (read Josephus for what happens when this goes wrong) and so served something of a cultural purpose. Thus, while it was a tragedy by today’s standards (although one might wonder at what people in that time might think of our war tactics today), it was not uncommon back then. Further, Muslim cities that surrendered to the Crusaders were left untouched, the people retained their property, and they were allowed to worship freely.

Anti-Semitism

No Crusade was ever called against the Jewish people. Sadly, there were unprovoked attacks on Jewish settlements by some rogue Crusaders, but the Church actually spoke out against them and some local bishops, clergy, and laity attempted to defend the Jews against them. Again, this is comparable to modern warfare – sometimes soldiers go off and commit horrible acts during war – but that is not an indictment on the legitimacy of the war itself, nor of the ruling authority (provided it did not command nor overlook such acts).

Riches

Christians did not go on crusade in order to plunder Muslims or get rich. Becoming a soldier was extremely expensive, and claiming an enemy’s treasure was the usual way of financing war in that day. Many crusading knights ended in bankruptcy. The failure of the Fourth Crusade is often claimed to have been caused by lack of funds. The Seventh Crusade cost more than six times the annual revenue of the crown. Moreover, the casualty rate for crusaders were very high – some say as high as 75 percent. The prospects for survival were low, much less getting wealthy.

Children

Ironically, the so-called “Children’s Crusade” of 1212 was neither a crusade nor was it made up of children. Due to religious enthusiasm, some German youth (most what 20th Century westerners would call “adolescents”) proclaimed themselves “Crusaders” and began a march to the Mediterranean sea. Fortunately for them, the sea failed to miraculously dry up to allow them to cross over to the Holy Land for free. The Pope responded that he did not call this “Crusade,” and told them to go back home.

Indulgences

Another famous urban legend surrounding the Crusades is even found among Christians. Evangelical scholar Ergun Caner criticizes the Pope for promising, “If you go and kill the infidel, you will be forgiven immediately — Paradise,” and concludes that, “There is fundamentally, no difference between bin Laden, in that case, and the Crusades.” This is a gross misrepresentation.

A Bull of the Crusade granted indulgences to those who took part in the crusades for “all penitential practices incurred by the crusaders provided they confess their sins.” These indulgences were similar to those that had historically been granted to the faithful for helping to build churches, hospitals, orphanages, and monasteries. Unlike the Muslim’s guaranteed “ticket to Paradise” for dying in jihad, an indulgence is “not a permission to commit sin, nor a pardon of future sin; neither could be granted by any power. Indulgences cannot get anyone out of Hell. It is not the forgiveness of the guilt of sin; it supposes that the sin has already been forgiven.”* Rather, indulgences are given for the remission of the temporal punishment due for sin that has been forgiven but not yet expunged by penance. Thus it was the temporal penances associated with forgiveness that were to be remitted.

The promise of ultimate forgiveness of sins required a contrite heart and was offered ahead of time as an assurance that should a faithful Crusader die while on Crusade, his final absolution (“last rites”) was already in place. The characterization of the remission of temporary, purgatorial sufferings of an already-forgiven and Heaven-bound Christian to the singular guarantee of Islamic Paradise for a Muslim assassin who dies in Jihad is fundamentally flawed. The Crusades were presented as penitential acts of devotion, not “get-out-of-hell-free cards.

Holy War?

To even tacitly admit that the Crusades were actions motivated by loyalty to Christianity, rewarded by papal indulgences, and sometimes led by the Church, may seem incredible to our modern Western mindset, but it was not unusual at the time. The Church at that time had the political authority and responsibility to protect the West. By the time of the first Crusade, Muslims had already been attacking the Christian West for many centuries. Something eventually was going to be done.

But were the Crusades really “religious wars”? Clearly not all battles between religious groups are over religion, any more than they are battles over language. Much like the Catholic-Protestant battles in Ireland, it simply is the case that some territories are nearly coextensive with certain faith groups (or linguistic groups, or racial groups, or political groups). If the Muslims had invaded India, perhaps we’d be discussing the “Hindu Crusades” – but they invaded the Holy Land and had their sites set on Christian Europe. Religious motivation was involved in a big way, of course, but the Crusades were not violent means of spreading religion – they were responses to Islam’s actions. Further, not all battles are “wars.” If a city gets attacked by invaders, the people can protect themselves and their city, or help may be sent from another city, without a formal declaration of war.

Just War?

Unfortunately, the Crusades are often simply lumped in with “religious wars” and treated according to whatever standard one uses to judge such events. Ergun Caner compares the Christian Crusades to Islamic Jihads. He believes that there was “a fundamental quantum shift that took place at the calling of the Crusades. Up until the Crusades, we had operated under a ‘just war criteria.’” Caner complains that, unlike the Iraq conflict for example, “Pope Urban [II] crossed the line from a ‘just war’, in Latin ‘bellum iustum’ to ‘holy war’, or ‘bellum sacrum.’” Caner goes on to criticize the Crusades for not being called by a secular authority, not distinguishing between combatants (he gives no justification for this claim), and for desring to “kill the infidel instead of convert the infidel.” This seems to be a flawed analogy though, as the Crusades were a defensive act against an aggressor – not a formal war.

But even if one considers the Crusades wars, Just War Theory would not necessarily rule against them. Augustine’s criteria for a just war are that it be called by a right authority (Jus ad Bellum) and conducted in the right way (Jus in Bello). These criteria were commented on by Thomas Aquinas, who said the following:

“First, the authority of the sovereign by whose command the war is to be waged. For it is not the business of a private individual to declare war…(Romans 13:4)…and for this reason Augustine says, “The natural order conducive to peace among mortals demands that the power to declare and counsel war should be in the hands of those who hold the supreme authority.”

There is nothing here requiring a “secular” authority. Further, it should be noted that the Pope, at this time in history, was not simply a “religious leader” of some sect (like Osama bin Laden). The Pope sat at the head of the Christian world – a world that had been under attack for centuries – and the Crusade he called was to come to the defense of the Christian world (not simply to attack infidels whom he happened to disagree with).

“Secondly, a just cause is required, namely that those who are attacked, should be attacked because they deserve it on account of some fault. Wherefore Augustine says, “A just war is wont to be described as one that avenges wrongs, when a nation or state has to be punished, for refusing to make amends for the wrongs inflicted by its subjects, or to restore what it has seized unjustly.”

It was appropriate for Christians to defend against attacks, and to try to regain lands which their enemy had seized and desecrated. The Muslims were the cause of this problem, and had been for centuries, and defense of oneself or one’s brothers is certainly just.

“Thirdly, it is necessary that the belligerents should have a rightful intention, so that they intend the advancement of good, or the avoidance of evil. Hence Augustine says, “True religion looks upon as peaceful those wars that are waged not for motives of aggrandizement, or cruelty, but with the object of securing peace, of punishing evil-doers, and of uplifting the good.”

The Crusades might not have been called for the “conversion of the infidel,” but they need not have been to be just. Defending one’s life or land is reason enough to fight – and to the degree that that was intended by the Crusaders, they were in the right.

Conclusion

Although many bad things happened during the Crusades, these were not called for by the governing authority. Nor, as it is commonly claimed, were sins committed while on crusade simply forgiven by virtue of their being committed while on crusade. Evil acts were committed during the Crusades because the Crusades were battles fought by fallen humans, and bad things happen in such circumstances. The evil of misdeeds done in a “religious” campaign might be more critically accounted, but they are not necessarily more unusual.

Finally, no misdeeds can be properly blamed on religion unless, of course, a given religion approves of such things.

Just four days after the Paris Terrorist Attack I got a pleasant surprise, a friends son sent me a friend request on Facebook. What made this request a lift-me-up for me was that I thought my friends son might have some more few choice words for me again. But I am glad I accepted his request because he informed me that he was after his own research seeing Islam in a whole new way. We went toe to toe on some of the issues related to Islam and it did not go very well I thought. But my friends son is very vocal and has political aspirations to continue to serve our country after he has already served in the military so I figured I would give it a shot at reaching him. Here is the Facebook messages between he and I. I started with…..

Hey Chris, I was hoping to talk with you more about Islam, you can call me all the names you like, it’s no biggie – but you need to learn that Islam does what Islam does because of Islamic doctrine and following Muhammad example, not because of what the USA does.

If you would have been more tactful during our first conversation perhaps I would have been more inclined to discuss your question in our second conversation. I am not saying Islamic literature does not dictate a message of hate and violence. I am merely saying that there are many muslims that do not follow these messages of hate to the T just as there a many Christians who don’t put homosexuals to death or give a raped woman over to her rapist or stone people for working on the sabbath. Or chastise women for wearing pants or abstain from all shellfish.

I tried to be tactful and respectful man. I befriended you because I liked your video and spunk and have respect for you dad. You could have been more tactful too. But you kept doing what I was trying to challenge you on and what your doing now, making false moral equivalencies. When we talk about Islam why do you want to talk about Christianity? Like now, Jews who follow the Mosaic law no longer do things like stone people for working on the Sabbath, so what does that have to do with Islam and what they are doing today and always have.

You want to put too much blame for Islamic actions on the US. Are you aware that our navy was created to fight the Islamic Barbary States during the first two wars that the USA fought after independence from Britain? Islam was the aggressor then as they are now. Do you know that Islam has been on the brink of conquering the whole world 3 times in history only to be stopped at the battle of Tours by Charles Martel and twice at the gates of Vienna. Are you aware that besides the Barbary Wars that the USA fought Islam in WW1 and had we not dismantled the Ottoman Empire Caliphate and without our leaving Islam behind in science and industry Islam would have already taken the world over?

What does it really matter that “many muslims that do not follow these messages of hate to the T”? What are we as a country going to do about the many that do follow Muhammad’s message? And what are we going to do with those who are not violent terrorist but still seek to impose Islamic Sharia on the whole world.

I thank you for serving our country, I never did. Many people like you died and it was not needlessly. Islam has to be withstood and the longer Islam goes without being earnest fought and resisted,, the more blood it is going to take to stop the Islamic directive of world domination.

Please think about these things and read the Koran,, your a good smart guy and your bound to be a big influence in your circle of friends, so please research these issues,, especially if your gonna run for any political office.

My outlook is this. Until a man conspires to do harm to another or indeed does do harm to another I will defend him from any and all who wish to do harm to him. And I will pursue those that wish to do harm to any man that is peaceful regardless of religion, race or ideology.

You blindly follow your faith and I am almost certain that most of your historical “facts” were written by christians. Religion in its entirety is corrupt. All religious texts were written by the hands of men. Men that were supposedly divinely inspired. But there is an indisputable fact of life that goes as follows: men are corrupt. Men are corrupt and therefore how can I trust the words that were written by a man with a pen claiming god told him to do it. No. I have my own faith and my morals are based on logic and equality and not judging others without cause. Religion is folly.

Here is what I see as a problem. When I talk about Islam you hear me say Muslim. I was not talking about men so why do you. I would agree 100% with your first paragraph. But why bring that up, it should be understood without saying that both of us seek to defend innocents from being harmed

Islam attacked American merchant ships relentlessly proceeding the Barbary wars, so much so that we gave 1/3 of our state revenue as tribute money to stop them from doing so. There was no propaganda then and the real propaganda is what your spreading in saying things like Muslims radicalize because we bomb the shit out of them.

I never have said Christianity is infallible and I do not believe that, and your obfuscating the issue by continually bringing up Christianity when Christianity is not totalitarian in nature as Islam is. There is no equivalency.

You say my historical facts are probably written by Christians. Not true. There are 53 Islamic states in the world today and most of them used to be Christian before being invaded and conquered by the sword of Islam. Those Christian lands became Christian because after 300 years of brutal persecution of Christians by Rome Constantine made Christian persecution illegal in the Edict of Malan and later made Christianity the official religion of Rome in the Edict of Thessalonica around 350ad. These are two historical markers and documents that show Christianity rose to ascendancy without lifting a sword. But the opposite is true of Islam. Islam became what it is by the sword of Allah.

No one is judging others without cause. I am not judging others. I am judging Islam. Your aware there are violent directives in the Islamic holy text. So how do you think all the Islamic states became Islamic?

Luckily for us Islam historians wrote it down for us to read today. Muhammad prophesied that there would be not a single living non-Muslim on the Arabian peninsula, and it came to pass before he died. And the Muslims Chronicled how it happened and how it went down for you to read if you will read it.

The hour is late, the cancer of islam has eaten to the very heart of Europe and Britain and they sit precipitously on the edge of the abyss.

In recent weeks and days leaders from around Europe and Britain including The Netherlands, Nicholas Sarkozy of France, Angela Merkel of Germany, David Cameron of Britain, Geert Wilders, members of Australia’s parliament and many others have all condemned the policy of multiculturalism for the destruction, misery, discontent and untold damage it has reeked on their countries, cultures and people.

The prime contributors to the civil unrest, open conflict, acts of terrorism and destruction in each of these countries have been muslims. The muslims have sown seeds of conflict, division, sneering contempt, provocation and open hostility. Without exception, every country muslims have emigrated to has suffered greatly as a result of the presence of their new guests. Muslims have spit upon and bitten the hands of those who have extended hands of welcome, generosity and hospitality. This outrageous ingratitude, this open aggression can no longer be tolerated. The time has come to send our muslim guests home.

Calls are now being made around the world to immediately stop immigration from all islamic countries and to begin the repatriation of all muslims and muslim immigrants who have committed crimes or who espouse radical beliefs. These deportations and repatriations have been called for regardless of the place of birth, back to the Middle East and Africa. In addition to the immediate deportations are calls for laws to be passed banning the wearing of the burqa (the full bodybag covering), the hijab (headscarf) and any face covering by muslim women, this in addition to the banning of outdoor prayer sessions such as the ones seen in Paris and many other European and British cities. In addition, calls are being made to ban the building of mosques and pass laws making criminal all aspects of sharia law. In fact, the Swiss have now banned the building of muslim minarets and the French have banned hijabs/burquas and mass outdoor prayers. This must continue across Europe, Britain and North America.

There are those who will condemn the deportation and repatriation of muslims back to the Middle East and Africa as unjust and harsh. These same persons who would protest the deportation of muslims would say we should not paint all muslims with the same brush. To that assertion, I ask you to recall the last time you witnessed 10,000 “Good, Peaceful, Moderate Muslims” marching in loud and vigorous protest and condemnation of the murderous brutality of the “Bad Muslims”….it has never happened and never will happen.

(The countries that should be immediately banned are listed as the 57 member states of the Organization of Islamic Conference.)

To dismiss this as melodramatics or rhetoric is to betray your ignorance of the true state of affairs and the clearly stated, oft and loudly repeated goal of muslims and islam; The complete destruction of Western culture and the domination and subjection of all Westerners.

As said, the evidence of the cancerous effects of muslim and islamic presence can be clearly seen around the world. The letter below, an open letter to England, could well and should well, be written to every country who are now hosts to muslims.

AN OPEN LETTER TO ENGLAND

England and Europe….harvest time is here……. reap your crop.

In Britain you are reaping the sorry crop you have sown, will you now ask us to, once again, cross oceans and spill our blood doing what you refuse to. Have you no shame?

As Britons, as men, you stand idle and indifferent as your heritage, your culture, your history and your country are destroyed. You turn away as social engineers and sneering academia fill your children’s heads with poisonous propaganda, turning them into haters of their own people and lovers, nay, worshippers of the black hearted, murderous cancer of islam. The hands of welcome and generosity you extended to muslims have been spat on and bitten. Your sacred traditions, customs and observances including your places of worship have been attacked, mocked and defiled by your muslim guests and you turn away, indifferent. Even your very monarchy suffers threat and derision and you hang your heads and look away.

Is there no humiliation to great for you to suffer, no smear on the historical and cultural fabric of your nation too injurious? Many of you served your country in the military, do you not recall when you raised your right hand and swore an oath of allegiance? Do you think that oath to be no more than a casual utterance to be cast aside at a moment’s convenience? Many of you are fathers and family men, do you not feel shame as you look into the eyes of your women and children knowing the depths of your ignorance and cowardice? You shuffle away as your women are butchered and raped. You allow yourselves to be herded as cattle at the whim and fancy of your muslim immigrant guests. The very soul of your once great nation is sold to the lowest bidder, the lowest common denominator, criminals and malcontents, from third world countries around the world. You allow your entire lives to be destroyed at the hands of a corrupt bureaucracy, a corrupt judiciary, terrorists and human garbage.

I watch you from across the Atlantic…you sicken me.

Now, as spineless cowards, you Britons, trembling and whining, hiding behind the skirts of your women, shuffle quietly down the streets of your towns and cities ignoring the repeated assaults on the very foundation of your country and in so doing you squander our gift to you. The extent of your “revolt”, your outrage at the injurious actions of your muslim guests, is to crowd into pubs, miserable bloody drunken slobbering fools, slapping each other on the back and mumbling, slurring “Rule Britannia”. The extent of your fight against the cancer of islam are shaking fists and a couple of thrown rocks. Even your war dead; brave, honourable and noble men, who, in their death gave you freedom and whose sacrifice, whose sacred memory and priceless gift is spit upon and insulted by muslims, even this searing outrage fails to raise even the slightest indignation, even the slightest rebuke………. and still you stand, mute and motionless.

You are beyond contempt.

I am of Scottish descent. My ancestors can be traced back in North America to the landing at Plymouth Rock. My family has, through the past four centuries, poured sweat and spilled blood in the forging of a great nation, Canada. My family is closely tied to the United States of America. As the slogan says on the Peace Arch at Blaine, Washington State, the border crossing between Canada and the United States of America…we truly are “Children of a Common Mother”.

Our nations have a rich history of greatness, progress and sacrifice and service to others. I recall our nations, our fathers and grandfathers, crossed oceans to confront a murderous Austrian tyrant, a madman who had set fire to the world. They did not waver, they did not flinch, they stood with clenched fists and grit teeth and, suffering much, gave Europe and Britain her freedom. Even my family knows of that sufferance and sacrifice as the bones of my grandfather, a soldier with the Calgary Highlanders and the 82nd Airborne Regiment, lay at rest on your soil in the Henri-Chapelle American Military Cemetery and Memorial in Belgium.

How then, can the children of the men and women who suffered so greatly under the boot heel of National Socialism, squander the gift we and their forefathers gave them? The gift that is not theirs to squander but to keep sacred, to be passed from generation to generation, to be treated with breathless reverence and to be jealously guarded. How can they turn a blind eye to the cancerous and corrosive political ideology of islam that threatens to, and has to some degree, destroy our gift to them and make them slaves once again?

Will you ask, once again, for the assistance of the children of North America? Will you petition my children, my sons and daughters, for their lives, their blood to wrest the British people from ”neath the boot heel of islam? Will we answer the call from the children of Saxons, Anglos, Vikings, and the Norse? Will we remember our commonality and rush to your defense? Will we once again cross oceans to confront a scourge and a plague?….or will we turn away indifferent to your enslavement and your suffering?……will we turn our collars up and walk away, the dying screams of the once proud nation of Britain ringing in our ears?

Freedom is precious. Freedom is a gift. England, must you lose your freedom to understand its rarity and worth?

These are difficult times we live in and to quote a song “There’s something lurking in the room with me I cannot see but I smell its stinking breath” The times ahead will be more difficult than you can imagine. History does not speak kindly of those who ignore danger and threat and turn their backs on that which birthed and nourished them. I suppose you and you alone must decide where you stand and where you draw the line in the sand. You and you alone must decide the course of action, the extent of your resolve once that line is crossed.

I am reminded of a line from the movie “Kingdom of Heaven”…it renders useless the arguments offered by those who, weak of will, follow the murderous direction of others and refuse to act on behalf of those in need. The King of Jerusalem, counseling a young knight on matters of conscience and courage of conviction, responds to one of his questions, he says, ” Even when those who move you be kings or men of power, your soul is in your keeping alone. When you stand before God you cannot say that I was told by others to do thus or that virtue was not convenient, this will not suffice”.

So England my friend…..what is your convenience?…..what is the depth of your character?…..what is the breadth of your conviction?….. what does Britain and your ancestors mean to you?….What will be your legacy?…..What will your grandchildren say when they speak of you?…..Are you so faint of heart, so timid that you would sell out your very country for a moment or two of peace?. I myself think not……death comes to us all, each and every one….it makes no distinction. The grade is marked on your life and how you lived it. For many, they would say it is better to die on your feet than to live a life of compromise and quiet desperation on your knees and I, for one, am inclined to agree with them.

In closing, I am reminded of the final paragraph from a Scottish legend, “The Devils Advocate”. I trust these few lines will not be the requiem mass, the epitaph of Western civilization. I trust these will not be the words that ring in your children’s ears as they suffer the murderous brutality of muslims and islam. The choice is yours.

“Evil is among us because we have invited that evil. We suffered much but we brought upon our own sufferings. The Devil would have had no power over us but we gave him that power. We became bondsman because we willed it; we are in despair because we brought despair to our neighbours. We died because we acquiesced in death. We were silent when we should have spoken in behalf of our brothers. For a moments security we looked away when our neighbour was robbed. In behalf of a false peace we postponed a war with evil when we should have not been moved from our places. At every step we compromised, when we knew there is no compromise with hell. If the Devil is guilty we are not guiltless. In his condemnation we are included. In a judgment against him we are also judged. May God have mercy on our souls.”

England and Europe ….harvest time is here……. reap your crop.

In Britain you are reaping the sorry crop you have sown, will you now ask us to, once again, cross oceans and spill our blood doing what you refuse to. Have you no shame?

As Britons, as men, you stand idle and indifferent as your heritage, your culture, your history and your country are destroyed. You turn away as social engineers and sneering academia fill your children’s heads with poisonous propaganda, turning them into haters of their own people and lovers, nay, worshippers of the black hearted, murderous cancer of islam. The hands of welcome and generosity you extended to muslims have been spat on and bitten. Your sacred traditions, customs and observances including your places of worship have been attacked, mocked and defiled by your muslim guests and you turn away, indifferent. Even your very monarchy suffers threat and derision and you hang your heads and look away.

Is there no humiliation to great for you to suffer, no smear on the historical and cultural fabric of your nation too injurious? Many of you served your country in the military, do you not recall when you raised your right hand and swore an oath of allegiance? Do you think that oath to be no more than a casual utterance to be cast aside at a moment’s convenience? Many of you are fathers and family men; do you not feel shame as you look into the eyes of your women and children knowing the depths of your ignorance and cowardice? Not even the agony and tortured screams of the most defenceless amongst you pricks your conscience. Those tender souls you stood with at the alter, ‘neath the gaze of God himself, tender souls you swore to protect with your very lives, now, suffering muslim threat,  you shuffle away as your women, “uncovered meat”  in muslim eyes, are raped and butchered .

You allow yourselves to be herded as cattle at the whim and fancy of your muslim immigrant guests. The very soul of your once great nation is sold to the lowest bidder, to the lowest common denominator, to criminals and malcontents from third world countries around the world. You allow your entire lives to be destroyed at the hands of a corrupt bureaucracy, a treacherous clergy, a corrupt judiciary, terrorists and human garbage. I watch you from across the Atlantic …you sicken me.

Now, as whimpering cowards, you Britons, trembling and whining, hiding behind the skirts of your women, shuffle quietly down the streets of your towns and cities ignoring the repeated assaults on the very foundation of your country and in so doing you squander our gift to you. The extent of your “revolt”, your outrage at the injurious actions of your muslim guests, is to crowd into pubs, miserable bloody drunken slobbering fools, slapping each other on the back and mumbling, slurring “Rule Britannia”. The extent of your fight against the cancer of islam are shaken fists and a couple of thrown rocks. My letter to Kym L. Worthy and the Wayne County Prosecutors Office about Terry Jones in Dearborn

Hello Mrs. Kym L. Worthy and the Wayne County Prosecutors Office,

My name is Damon Whitsell and I am writing to tell you all that I am appalled that you would try to stop Terry Jones from peacably protesting in Dearborne because doing so “would endanger his life and public peace”. If Islam was really a “Religion of Peace” no one would have to worry about Muslims Rioting, Killing and “discharging Firearms”.

If Islam was really a “Religion of Peace” the US government could burn thousands of Korans, just like they did Bibles, and no one would die because of it. If Islam where really a “Religion of Peace” we could even put a Muhammad figurine into a jar of piss and call it art, like has been done to Jesus and his Cross, and no one would have to die from it. We could even draw cartoons of Muhhamad all day long and no one would have to go into a  “protection program”.

Muhammad said (Bukhari:V4B52N220) “Allah’s Apostle said, ‘I have been made victorious with terror”. – And if you stop Jones from practicing his freedom of speech and his right to assemble and protest, Muhammad and the Muslims will be made victorious once again.

That you think Jone’s life would be in danger proves the point he has been trying to make all along. Islam is of the Devil. I used to not agree with him but I do now.

I’ll be honest with you guys and tell you that I am not concerned if Jones or anyone else gets killed. If Muslims will kill him, or anyone else, for Jone’s peaceably protesting now,, how many will they kill when they comprise 10-15 or even 30 % of our population? The answer is as many as they want to or have to in order to become the dominant “religion” and political system,, as mandated by the Koran.

You guys need to study the Koran until you realize Islam is not a “Religion” but a Totalitarian Political Ideology and system that seeks to dominate the whole world. More than 75 percent of the Koran and other Islamic Unholy Books are not about how a Muslim gets to Heaven but how they are supposed to convert everyone by the sword or subjugate all others. I had to read it three times to figure all this out because it has no chronological order or story line, it reads like a conversation between two people and events that you know nothing about until you also read the Hadith (sayings of Muhammad) and the Sunna (biographies of Muhammad). But once you do all this you can clearly see that indeed Islam is of the devil. The Koran even says Sura 3:54 “But they (the Jews) were deceptive, and Allah was deceptive, for Allah is the best of deceivers!”,,,and we should all know who the greatest deceiver is. Joh 8:44  Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Therefore I urge you to not try to stop Jone’s right to free speech and to assemble and protest. I would also ask you to cease trying to raise Islam to special protected status. So what if Jones or others die. People get killed in this world everyday for nothing more than not being Muslim. Let Jones do what he has the right to do and protect him as good as you can because if you stop Jones, one day they might be killing you, me and/or our children if we or they dare say anything negative about Islam or Muhammad.

My Letter to Pastor Terry Jones

Hello Pastor Jones,

I owe you allot and want to thank you for opening my eyes to the dangers of Islam. Please read my testimony from my Islam blog and what follows.

***”In 98 I was working evening shift and seen a late night commercial offering a free Koran. Because I have an interest in all religions, especially Christian Cults, I ordered it and read it even though it was a very difficult read. I noticed peaceful verses and violent verses but did not know what to make of it all. Then after 911 I read the Koran again and this time I discovered a verse that talked about later verses superseding earlier verses. But I did not know which where early and later verses. Even after this and 911 I still believed that Islam was not a big concern for me as the only ones blowing things up where “terrorist” and not all Muslims where terrorist, right? Then came 9/09/10, it was the day that changed my life and mission. Because I have Mormons, Oneness Pentecostals, Word of Faithers and Bible Missionaries in my family, I had devoted the last 10 years to Christian Cult Apologetics, and then came along Pastor Terry Jones, needless to say him and his Burn a Koran day changed my life. Here is why.

On 9/9/10 I visited a friends political blog and seen a post about the Burn a Koran Day. I’m not really sure why but I thought, this jerk could to set the whole world ablaze if he burns them Korans. I visited Jones site and also went to his facebook page and a facebook page that was against the Koran burning. What I seen shocked me. It went like this,,,”we will kill you all if you burn our Koran”,, and non Muslims responded by saying,,, “not if we kill you all first”.

The non-muslims where posting videos of Muslims burning people alive, beheading people, stoning people, hanging people, beating women,,etc. I had seen a couple of these videos but had no idea there where so many. And of course on 9/11 they was showing all the tributes on TV which included the jumpers from the towers, I was really overwhelmed but still spent a total of five days on those facebook pages. One day as soon as I awoke, it dawned on me that I never seen a single Muslim denounce those atrocious videos without also half heartedly justifying them. And many Muslims outright condoned the terrible acts. That day I noticed that far to many of the ones who condoned such acts where living in the west. I knew right then that there are not as many “moderate Muslims” as myself and most people thought. I decided that day that I would be changing the focus of my ministry and dedicating my life to studying Islam and telling others about it’s dangers. Now I don’t think your a jerk and if you burned a million Korans and it “set the whole world ablaze” it would not be your fault at all but rather because Islam is purely evil and just like Muhammad they are trying to be made victorious through terror (Bukhari:V4B52N220 “Allah’s Apostle said, ‘I have been made victorious with terror.'”).

When I heard about your Burn a Koran Day I was very conflicted and was unsure what to think. Part of me said “it is better that Jones burn the Koran now and Muslims go on a massive killing spree and people wake up to the true colors of Islam now than it would be to have the real nature of Islam go unnoticed until they are strong enough that they could really fight a war against us and millions and millions have to die”. A part of me thought that even if many people get killed over burning Korans it would actually save millions of life’s in the long run.

But another part of me was like so many others who would be willing to blame you instead of the Murdering Muslims and their Satanic Book as if like Muslim are animals that just cannot control themselves and have to be coddled. WELL, I NO LONGER FEEL THAT WAY. If ANYONE murders they should be held accountable and suffer the consequences.

The fact that over 20 have died because of your judging the Koran and burning it,, and that the authorities are trying to ban your Dearborne protest because they fear violence including firearms being fired,,, proves the point that myself and many others believe you was trying to make.

SO I THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT SERVICE YOU HAVE DONE FOR OUR GOD, COUNTRY AND FREEDOMS!!!

Islam is of the Devil and everyone needs to wake up to that fact before millions and million have to die to try to stop it.

The fact that over 20 people have been murdered (including 8 UN workers-2 beheaded) by rioting Muslims proves that Jones was spot on the truth. THE KORAN IS NOTHING BUT EVIL!!!

When Jones was going to hold the Burn a Koran Day, I was hesitant to support or denounce him. Because having read the Koran I knew that it and the people that follow it are evil to the core. But I was like many others, willing to excuse those Muslims who would kill over the burning as animals that just could not control themselves and thus I was not sure who to blame, the Muslims or Jones.

But now I fully support Jones and denounce those murdering Muslims as ruthless animals driven by a satanic and hate filled book and totalitarian political ideology.

The Koran, the Muslims who follow it and their totalitarian political ideology MUST BE CONDEMNED AND HELD ACCOUNTABLE.

Therefore I will soon be burning my Koran on youtube for all to see, with my testimony of why.

The Horowitz interview was very insightful to a topic I did not know very much about,, liberalism on campuses. His insights about everything was great and right on. Both he and Coulter call a spade a spade in Leftism being a religion, and the nastiest one at that,, well besides Islam. 🙂

All three interviewees talked quit a bit about Islam, but Geller gave insight to many other issues and Coulter floored me with this observation,, she said “America has one big advantage in this war,,, they all look alike – but we have to pretend that everyone doesn’t notice” (my paraphrase). And lastly Pamela and David are asked “Is America about to fall”. AWESOME responses!!!

This video really touched my heart and restrengthened my desire to fight counter-jihad. It had been a long hard day, when this video refreshed me and reminded me of what I have to lose.

Today I got accused of being a “blog-pimping plagiarist” and got some of my posting moderated at a nice forum I visit and post to. But because I was accused of running a business for having 2 t-shirts for sale here, I suspect that maybe a liberal or a Muslim reported me making those false allegations.  I am working with the mods of the forum to make things right because it is a good place to reach and equip many people for the good fight. But it did get frustrating and I thought, “my computer is running virus like funny and my email is being blocked like maybe it is being used to spam without my knowlwedge,,,,,, and all this crap ain’t worth it“.  But this video makes me say THANK YOU AMERICA AND AMERICANS, You are so worthy and I will gladly continue to fight for you because I love you,,,,,,, and thanks Sean. 🙂

MURDERING WHILE MUSLIM by Daniel Greenfield

SOURCE: Recently a nice Muslim fellow from Chicago by the name of Mohammad Alkaramla was convicted of sending bomb threats to a Jewish High School. Like most serial killers, his neighbors described him as peaceful and friendly. Just the sort of chap you want to invite to a barbecue or a bombing. His defense was that he wasn’t threatening to kill Jewish students because he was the follower of a bigoted religion, but because he was upset over his ex-wife leaving to return home to Jordan.

Mohammad Alkaramla joins a long list of Muslim terrorists who did what they did only because of “personal problems”. There was that great guy with the Facebook profile who only tried to set off a car bomb in Times Square because of a home foreclosure. And a devoted army psychiatrist in Fort Hood who tried to kill a bunch of soldiers because he had contracted PTSD from the drinking water in Texas. But the media was quick to assure us in every case, that these weren’t Muslim terrorists. Just distraught homeowners and workplace shooters who happened to be “Murdering While Muslim”.

But Mohammad didn’t threaten violence against his ex-wife’s lawyer or Royal Jordanian Airlines. Instead he threatened to blow up a Jewish High School which in all likelihood had nothing to do with his ex-wife leaving him. Instead his message read, “Will Give You until 01.15.2009 to back OFF from Gaza in Palestine or will set our explosive in your areas”. This was not the message of an angry ex-husband, but of an angry Muslim.

In one of the more ridiculous defenses, his father claimed that Mo A. was worried about his wife and son living near Gaza. “He went crazy like with stress. … He thinks Gaza is by Jordan. All he knows is what he sees on the TV.” There’s just one problem with this defense. Mohammad Alkaramla is actually from Jordan. So for this to be true, Mohammad would have to be clueless about the nearby geography of his own country. And since most Jordanians are actually Palestinian Arabs, and Jordan at one point annexed the West Bank, but not Gaza, this is one of the least plausible defenses ever.

But apparently we’re expected to believe that Mohammad could take the time to research Jewish targets for his hate– but not the area where his wife and son were going to be living.

Meanwhile Oregon saw another Mohammed, this one named Mohamed O. Mohamud, plot to blow up a Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Naturally the media suggested that he suffered from bullying and anger over his parent’s divorce. And no matter how many times Mohamed O. Mohamud was quoted as saying that he wanted to kill Americans in the name of Islam, the media refused to accept it. Forget Islam, the boy was clearly upset over some completely unrelated things. Just like Mohammad Alkaramla and all the other Mohammad’s and Mohammed’s and Mohamud’s out there. And by the time his trial rolls out, his lawyers may convince him that should be his defense. Even if he doesn’t agree, they may present it anyway.

The best ally of such defense strategies is that “Murdering While Muslim” is also the official position of the authorities, who still pretend that being a Muslim is a somehow incidental factor to engaging in Muslim terrorism. Accordingly we don’t profile Muslims at airports, because absolutely anyone could be a Muslim terrorist. Except an actual Muslim. And so we strip search Christian 6 year olds just to be on the safe side. The safe side being the side that doesn’t offend Muslims, who are not by any means the people trying to blow up the planes.

Cordoba Initiative plans to erect a 15-story mosque and Muslim Center at Ground Zero. They claim they will be constructing a much-needed community center for the downtown neighborhood, but a $73 million, 60,000-square foot community center is already under construction a few blocks away.

So yet again we find more of the lies of the morphing mosque narrative debunked. There is no “need” for a community center, let alone a victory mosque at Ground Zero.

You’ll also notice how all the discourse has been shut down, and the media is now functioning as the PR arm for radical Imam Rauf, thug Sharif El-Gamal, and Daisy the Khan.

Battery Park community center will be state of the art

Park51 backers aiming to build a 13-story Muslim Center near Ground Zero claim they will be constructing a much needed community center for the downtown neighborhood, yet a $73 million, 60,000-square foot community center is already under construction a few blocks away.

The Battery Park Community Center is being built within the base of two new [unintelligible] Properties high-rise residential condominium towers: the Liberty Lane and Liberty Green, now under construction on North End Avenue.

The community center project itself was designed by Hanrahan Meyers with the goal of the highest environmentally friendly Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) platinum certification being overseen by environmental consultants [unintelligible].

Kevin G. Harney, principal and CFO of Stalco Construction, which is building the community center, said that while some companies find LEED work challenging, they found it “enticing,” because they have been involved in many other LEED projects.

“From air quality to debris removal, we are under strict guidelines,” Harney added.

The community center will be housed on the street level, in a mezzanine and on two underground levels of the towers. Along with the main lobby with an atrium, the facilities will include an adult swimming pool, a children’s pool, a gymnasium and fitness center, locker rooms, a theater/auditorium, dance studios, classrooms, offices, a cafeteria, kitchen, bathrooms, and storage and equipment rooms.

Even those that are simply passersby will be drawn to the curving 550-foot long outer glass arcade wall that runs alongside two ball fields and a soccer field facing West Street just north of the World Trade Center site. The arcade wall will feature a patterned interpretation of a composition, “Water,” commissioned by composer Michael Schumacher, said Thomas Hanrahan, RA, and a partner with Hanrahan Meyers’ Partner.

“Schumacher’s composition is represented visually in the digitized form in the pattern of the glass wall,” noted Victoria Meyer, a partner with Hanrahan Meyer. “The music will be also accessible through a smartphone application that will allow visitors to hear the score simply by pointing their phones at the wall, with different sections playing a different part of the composition.”

Inside the building, the glass wall fronts two swimming pools and a gymnasium. The interiors will feature metal panel and plaster over concrete ceilings, tile flooring, along with a sports hardwood floor inside the gymnasium.

The LiRo Group’s Anthony Buquicchio, the construction manager, said, “The design calls for light cell controls of interior lighting and maximizing daylighting, which will significantly reduce energy use through natural light harvesting.” Although located on the cellar level, the gymnasium and the pool will feature expansive windows.

The smaller children’s pool will also feature an innovative hydraulic pool floor elevator system.

“The elevator will control the depth of pool’s floor in order to accommodate users of varying physical abilities, including the disabled and children,” said Stalco’s vice president and senior project manager, Robert V. Isbit.

The community center is a result of the Battery Park City Authority (BPCA) rules wherein every developer has to provide some community space or facilities to Battery Park City residents. The BCPA will administer the project, which will be managed by a community nonprofit organization. – Lois Weiss

SO THERE IS ALREADY A COMMUNITY CENTER GOING UP,,HUH? And lets not forget about the Christian Orthodox Church that was destroyed on 911 that is not being allowed to be rebuilt!!! Church-rejected, Mosque-defended = Tolerant-Liberal

I find it telling that when I debate/discuss the issue of the Mosque at Ground-Zero, almost no one from the progressive left knows about the city of New York not allowing a Christian Orthodox Church that was damaged in 9/11 to be rebuilt. Creeping Sharia posts this video of the matter for those who do not know:

In my many debates on the topic, the almost feverish support for the building of a mosque that didn’t exist prior to 9/11 was defended in exclusion to the preexisting rebuilding of a church. In other words: Christianity bad, and now the apparently tax-payer fundedIslamic mosque, good.

SHARM EL-SHEIKH (Reuters) – Shark attacks on tourists in the Red Sea have triggered a flurry of speculation as to what could have caused them, with suggestions ranging from overfishing to an Israeli plot to harm Egyptian tourism.The body of a 70-year-old German woman washed up on the shore at Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh on the Red Sea after an attack Sunday. Officials said the shark had taken a chunk out of her right thigh and bitten through her right elbow.

Egypt had just lifted a ban on swimming in parts of the area imposed after three Russians and a Ukrainian were injured in shark attacks last week.

The government has invited international experts to help locate the killer shark but officials were at loss as to what could have caused its behaviour.

“There is not one reason that will be ignored. We are seeking any reason that causes a change in shark behaviour,” Ahmed el-Edkawi, assistant secretary for the South Sinai region, told Reuters.

Some said sharks had been drawn to shallow waters after cattle being shipped in for last month’s Islamic feast of the sacrifice, or Eid al-Adha, had died and were thrown overboard.

Others suggested it could have been part of a secret plot by Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency.

“What is being said about the Mossad throwing the deadly shark (in the sea) to hit tourism in Egypt is not out of the question, but it needs time to confirm,” South Sinai Governor Mohamed Abdel Fadil Shousha was quoted as saying by state news site egynews.net….

Tuesday marks the 69th anniversary of the Japanese attack on the U.S. Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor.

The surprise attack preceded a declaration of war. The Japanese sank or severely damaged 18 ships – including 8 battleships. Additionally, 161 planes were destroyed on the ground.

The death toll exceeded 2,400, with more than 1,000 wounded.

The response was swift and sure. On December 8, Congress voted a declaration of war with only one dissent. In the global conflict that followed, Americans were more united than ever before – or since.

Over the next 3 ½ years, 16 million Americans served in our Armed Forces, out of a population of 133 million. On the home front, war production included 88,410 tanks and self-propelled guns, 257,390 artillery pieces and 324,750 aircraft of all types.

More than 292,000 Americans died in battle, and another 672,000 were wounded.

During the conflict, Japan lost 1.3 million people or 2.7% of its pre-war population. More than 100,000 died in the B-29 bombings of Tokyo, and twice that number were killed when atom bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. By August 1945, Japanese and German cities were piles or rubble – some still smoldering.

It was a victory of epic proportions that came at a terrible price. But Western civilization prevailed and the Japanese warlords and Nazi leaders were tried as war criminals.

What would have happened if we had fought World War II the way we’re fighting the war on Islamic terrorism? What if political correctness guided America in the weeks and months after Pearl Harbor?

•  On December 8, 1941, Franklin Delano Roosevelt would have come before a joint session of Congress to apologize for the presence of U.S. Marines in Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic earlier in the century, and the Spanish-American War. He would have offered to give the Philippines back to Spain and pay reparations.   •  He would have referred to December 7, 1941 as “a day pretty much like any other and let’s not make a big deal of it” and cautioned that, “I think that at a time when the country is anxious generally and going through a tough time, then fears can surface, suspicions can surface. We have to make sure that we don’t start turning on each other.” To put the emphasis where it properly belonged, the president would have said that anniversaries of Pearl Harbor would be officially designated National Days of Service. •  America’s slogan would have become “Remember, Pearl Harbor was no one’s fault.” •  FDR would have threatened negotiations if Japanese aggression didn’t cease immediately and sought sanctions from the League of Nations. •  Public officials would have taken to referring to Pearl Harbor, the Bataan Death March (more properly, the Bataan Relocation Program) and the Holocaust as “man-caused disasters.” •  Reports of German or Japanese atrocities would have been accompanied by the requisite recitation of the sins of slavery and Wounded Knee. •  In 1942, a number of Congressmen would have complained that the fighting on Guadalcanal was unwinnable and unnecessary. The Marines would have been withdrawn and the island-hopping campaign discontinued. •  Actor Errol Flynn might have speculated that Pearl Harbor was “an inside job,” and suggested a Zionist conspiracy to push the U.S. into a war with the Axis powers. •  The President would have proclaimed Shintoism “a religion of peace” which had nothing to do with the “man-caused disaster” of Dec. 7th, and explained that “Banzai” pertains to a spiritual struggle. •  Commentators would have urged us to distinguish between ordinary Nazis, who just want to live in peace, and Nazi militants. The later somehow had managed to distort their ideology of brotherhood. •  In his 1941 Holiday Message (which, coincidentally, would have come around December 25th ), FDR would have told the American people, “We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation,” but that Japanese ancestor worship “has done so much over the centuries to shape the world – including my own country.” •  A Shinto shrine would have been erected over the sunken U.S.S. Arizona. Those who objected to this free-exercise of religion would have been excoriated as bigots and racists by the media. •  Teach-ins opposing the U.S. war mobilization would have been held on college campuses across the country. At Columbia University, an assistant professor of anthropology would have said, “The only heroes are those who find ways to help defeat the U.S. military” and “I personally would like to see a million Pearl Harbors.” • The minister of the church FDR attended in Hyde Park would have said the Day of Infamy was “America’s chickens coming home to roost” and “G-d damn America!” •  Words like “Jap,” “Nip,” Kraut” and “Jerry” would have been banned as hate speech. •  Civil libertarians would have demanded that German saboteurs, captured in June 1942, be tried in civilian courts. •  J. Edgar Hoover would have announced that the FBI would not engage in racial or ethnic profiling in rounding up spies, and that the Bureau was specifically targeting Irish nuns and French pastry chefs. •  The German American Bund would have decried the arrest of German nationals in the wake of Berlin’s declaration of war on the United States and suggested that they were victims of entrapment. •  Army Chief of Staff General George C. Marshall would have announced plans to have homosexuals serve openly in the Armed Forces. Thereafter, enlistment rates would have plummeted. Chaplains who opposed the policy would have been told to praise the lord and keep their mouths shut. •  Planning for D-Day, Supreme Allied Commander General Dwight David Eisenhower would have said he didn’t see why 110-lb. women, carrying 45-lbs of equipment and supplies, couldn’t wade ashore in rough surf at Omaha Beach. But, just to be safe, canvas tennis shoes would be issued to the troops in place of combat boots. •  To teach tolerance, American school children would have celebrated Emperor Hirohito’s birthday, and role-played at being kamikaze pilots. •  Republicans would have repeatedly asked Roosevelt where Japan’s weapons of mass destruction were and speculated that the war was FDR’s personal vendetta against Tojo and Hitler. •  On September 2, 1945, the United States would have formally surrendered to the Empire of Japan on the battleship Kongo anchored in New York harbor. Thereafter, we would have had sukiyaki for Thanksgiving.

TELLING NON-MUSLIMS the disturbing truth about Islam is difficult for many reasons. People often have a strong emotional reaction at the mere mention of the subject. But not always.

If you talk to people about Islam, you will get a variety of responses from people. You might have a willing listener who learns from you, or one who listens skepically, or one who outright rejects everything you say or who won’t let you even finish and brands you an Islamophobic racist.

Their response to you depends, in part, on the way you approach the conversation. Not entirely, of course, but your approach can sometimes overcome an already-existing predisposition to respond to any mention of Islam with hostility.

Over the next while, I will occasionally publish articles on different ways to successfully approach conversations about Islam, and I will add a link to those articles here on this page, and I’ll keep a link to this page in the sidebar.

I have already published several articles about different ways to approach conversations about Islam, so that will get the list started. I suggest you read some of these articles, especially before a social event when you know the topic is likely to come up, or where you would like to bring it up. Use these articles as a kind of “pre-game coaching.”

We can each do our part to increase the number of people who are no longer innocent about Islam by talking to the people we personally know and who already trust us and respect us. For many of them, you are the only one who has a chance of getting through to them. Let’s make those opportunities count.

W/VIDEO: Obama’s New START Treaty – Incompetent or Intentional and Arrogant?

Even for a man known for his arrogance, Barack Obama’s treatment of the Senate in connection with the New START Treaty is astounding.  His demand that Senators approve this defective accord during the few days remaining in the lame-duck session amounts to contempt of Congress.  It must not be tolerated, let alone rewarded.

To be sure, Mr. Obama is not the first chief executive to hold the legislative branch in low esteem.  Still, his highhandedness when it comes to the constitutional responsibility of the Senate to play a real role in treaty-making seems particularly contemptuous, and contemptible.

The Obama administration’s insistence that Senators accede to his efforts to relegate them to rubber-stamps is without precedent. As a bipartisan group of fifteen former senators recently observed, never before in the history of the U.S. Senate has the deliberation and vote on an arms control agreement been truncated by their being conducted during a lame-duck session.

The effort to ram the treaty through before Christmas is no more justified than it is precedented.  The claim being made by the administration and its surrogates that uncertainty about Russian activities necessitates such haste is laughable. President Obama himself is responsible for allowing previous verification arrangements to lapse. He did so over a year ago and seemed untroubled until now about there being no monitoring systems in place.  And the insights this accord’s limited inspection and monitoring arrangements will afford are hardly up to the job of detecting the Kremlin’s inveterate cheating and other strategically ominous developments.

It turns out the real need for verification lies elsewhere – namely, in establishing what Team Obama has given away with respect to missile defense in course of negotiating New START, and in the months since that treaty was signed.  Last week, the Washington Times’ ace national security reporter, Bill Gertz, revealed that the administration had been caught lying to Senators concerned about yet another agreement now being developed with the Russians.  Apparently, it would go beyond the undesirable limitations on U.S. anti-missile systems – both direct and indirect – that were incorporated into the present accord. (In a marvelous essay at National Review Online, former federal prosecutor Andy McCarthy demonstrates both the reality and undesirability of those limitations.)

The Obama administration has tried to allay concerns about any new negotiations by saying that they are simply building on talks the Bush administration had previously held with Moscow on missile defense cooperation.  As former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Keith Payne, who headed up the U.S. delegation to those talks, pointed out to a Capitol Hill audience last week, his explicit instructions were not to discuss (let alone agree to) limits of any kind on our anti-missile capabilities.  It is hard to imagine a more different agenda than that of Mr. Obama – whose ideologically driven antipathy to such defenses seems about as deep-seated as his disdain for those in Congress who have sought to protect Americans against ballistic missile attack.

Honor, Sharia Law, and Virginity Tests – NEVER A GOOD COMBINATION!!!

STATS FROM WIKIPEDIA: An honor killing or honour killing^[1] (also called a customary killing) is the murder of a member of a family or social group by other members, due to the belief of the perpetrators (and potentially the wider community) that the victim has brought dishonour upon the family or community.

The perceived dishonor is normally the result of one of the following behaviors, or the suspicion of such behaviors: (a) dressing in a manner unacceptable to the family or community, (b) wanting to terminate or prevent an arranged marriage or desiring to marry by own choice, (c) engaging in heterosexual sexual acts outside marriage, or even due to a non-sexual relationship perceived as inappropriate, and (d) engaging in homosexual acts.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) estimates that perhaps as many as 5,000 women and girls a year are murdered by members of their own families.^[2] Many women’s groups in the Middle East and Southwest Asia suspect the victims are at least four times more.^[3]

VIDEO COMMENTARY: A Turkish Kurd was jailed for at least 22 years in Britain on Thursday for murdering his 15-year-old daughter in what prosecutors said was an honour killing.

Mehmet Goren, described in court as a psychotic bully who terrorised his family, was handed a life sentence for killing his daughter Tulay because of her relationship with an older man who belonged to a different branch of Islam. The London schoolgirl disappeared in January 1999, shortly after her father told his eight-year-old son to kiss his sister goodbye as he would never see her again. Her body was never found.

Goren’s wife Hanim, who had suffered three decades of abuse at his hands, was among those who gave evidence against him, weeping and screaming in the witness box and demanding he reveal where the body was so she could bury it. One of his other daughters, Nuray Guler, also testified against him, screaming: “Even animals would not do what you have done.”

Prosecution lawyer Jonathan Laidlaw told the court that the Goren case was a “terrible reminder of what honour-based crime can involve” and a “wake-up call” to the existence of so-called “honour killings” in Britain. Police had become involved with the family in the weeks before the murder, when Goren beat up his daughter’s boyfriend, Halil Unal, then complained about their relationship to officers and demanded she take a virginity test.

Tulay ran away and told police her father had beaten her and she would rather go into care than return home, but her mother persuaded her to go back. Goren attacked his daughter’s boyfriend for a second time just 13 days after Tulay went missing, this time with a hatchet, and it was while in hospital that Unal reported his girlfriend missing.

But police failed to put two and two together and it was two months before they began to suspect Tulay had been murdered. They submitted a file to prosecutors in 2000 but were told there was not enough evidence for charges. Goren was finally arrested in 2008, along with his two brothers, after a review. Both his brothers were cleared of wrongdoing in court Thursday.

An ethnic Kurd from Elbistan in Turkey, Goren had moved to Britain claiming asylum in 1996. He was jailed in 2000 for his hatchet attack on Unal but escaped deportation because his family all lived in Britain. The 49-year-old admitted hitting his daughter and wife but denied murder, saying he still believed Tulay was alive and “will turn up one day”.

Islamic sharia laws in Indonesia’s Aceh province have been used by vigilante groups to harass and intimidate locals, a Human Rights Watch report says. The rights group has detailed evidence that the laws are often selectively enforced and rarely applied to wealthy or politically connected individuals.

Its report says sharia police sometimes force women and girls to get “virginity tests”.

Christen Broecker from Human Rights Watch says in one extreme case a woman was raped by sharia police while in detention. “The Aceh authorities should be commended because they did apprehend two of the three sharia policemen accused of raping this woman,” she told Radio Australia’s Connect Asia.

“They prosecuted them and they sent them to prison. “But there are a lot of other low-level abuses that we’ve tracked that have not been similarly punished.” The report accuses Aceh officials of violating Muslims’ rights by their interpretation of sharia laws. “We have no position on sharia law per se. The problem is that these two laws we find violate Muslim men and women’s rights,” Ms Broecker said. “So they’re harassed if they choose to have consensual relationships with members of the opposite sex.”

Sharia police told Human Rights Watch they were trained in interpreting Islamic law.

“But they can be imposed by the regular police as well, and private individuals are encouraged by the law to help apprehend violators,” Ms Broecker said. She says this has led to a situation where “vigilante violence is a major problem”. “We think it’s encouraged by the laws and by the police failure to apprehend anyone who commits violence in imposing them,” she said.

Ms Broecker says virginity tests are a gender-specific form of torture under international law and a practice that both the sharia police and the provincial government in Aceh have defended. She says women in Aceh can also be apprehended not just for failing to wear a veil but for wearing clothing sharia police consider tight.

“And there still does not seem to be a clear definition of what is acceptable and what is not acceptable in their view,” Ms Broecker said.

SOURCE: The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) is preaching a global Caliphate and Islamic Shari’a law over America to its members, according to the 2010 ICNA Member’s Hand Book. This is a very different message than the group’s public outreach efforts, and contradicts claims that the organization is a tolerant, mainstream Islamic group.

As the hand book spells out, the organization’s ultimate goal is “the Establishment of Islam” as the sole basis of global society and governance. It also encourages members to deceive people in its proselytizing campaign to help fulfill this goal. This aim is one that ICNA has been actively pursuing as the group has set its sights on America’s constitutional separation of religion and state.

It’s not the first example of radicalism by one of America’s largest Muslim organizations. ICNA’s magazine has featured interviews with terrorist leaders in Pakistan, called on youth to fight abroad in Kashmir, and honored like-minded extremist organizations like the Muslim Brotherhood and South Asia’s Jamaat-e-Islami. Concerns have also been expressed about 5 young members of the group’s Virginia mosque, who were arrested and convicted on terrorism charges after attempting to link up with and fight for Pakistani terror groups in December 2009.

As the hand book explains, ICNA doesn’t just believe that religion is a private affair. “Establishment of the Religion” extends beyond the individual and family and into the society, state, and world. “These words [Establishment of the Religion] include not only practicing the religion in individual and collective life and propagating its true teaching to others, but also striving to make this Deen [religion] a way of life for all,” the hand book reads.

ICNA’s charter is even more explicit. It calls for the “establishment of the Islamic system of life” in the world, “whether it pertains to beliefs, rituals and morals or to economic, social or political spheres.”

For ICNA, this means being the American branch of a global phenomenon that they refer to as the ‘Islamic Movement.’ The 2010 Hand Book notes, branches of this movement “are active in various parts of the world to achieve the same objectives. It is our obligation as Muslims to engage in the same noble cause here in North America.”

Working in an ‘Islamic Movement’ culminates in an Islamic super-state, the Caliphate, the hand book says. Believers have an obligation to strive to reestablish a collective body of Muslims worldwide, organized into the super-state under the direction of a Caliphate and Islamic law. The group wants “the united Muslim Ummah [community] in a united Islamic state, governed by an elected khalifah in accordance with the laws of shari’ah.”

While these ideas may have been popularized decades before by the Muslim Brotherhood and South Asian radicals in Jamaat-e-Islami, ICNA is emphasizing them today in its education and membership.

The group also realizes that achieving its aim is a slow process and involves several stages. In a section called, “Levels of work by the Islamic Movement,” ICNA lists five stages to attain a global Caliphate. The group advocates spreading its view of Islam to Muslims and non-Muslims alike, starting with the individual and family, and then implementing the “Establishment of the Religion” in the society, state, and global level.
